New economic alliances are emerging, geopolitical developments are reshaping global trade, and companies are increasingly challenged to rethink their international strategies.

Against this backdrop, the Federal Association for Emigration Consultancy and Foreign Trade Promotion (BVAA e.V.) hosted its 2026 Summer Reception under the title:

Executive BRICS Dialogue

"What does the reorganisation of the Global Economy mean for investors and businesses in China and Europe?"

"With this event, we created a platform where economic developments are not merely analysed but discussed together with entrepreneurs, investors and international decision-makers. Our objective is to bring together different perspectives and translate them into practical impulses for entrepreneurial decision-making and international cooperation", says Daniel ten Brinke, President of the BVAA

The keynote address, entitled "Transformation shapes a new order – cooperation secures a brighter future," was delivered by H.E. Yu Yong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Düsseldorf. He provided valuable insights into current economic developments from both a Chinese and BRICS perspective.
In an open and candid manner, he acknowledged what he described as Germany's current "transformation pains" and emphasised that Germany's renowned SME sector should once again view China as a strategic partner for cooperation. His speech revealed how China currently perceives Germany: With a certain degree of incomprehension and, in some respects, even sympathy.

This was followed by a presentation from Daniel ten Brinke, President of BVAA e.V., who analysed these developments from both a German and European perspective.
He stressed that the BRICS nations are increasingly questioning fundamental pillars of the international economic order established over the past century, including the role of the US dollar as the world's leading reserve currency. He further explained that, two years ago, the BRICS alliance expanded to include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela, while more than seventy additional countries have already applied for membership.

The event concluded with a distinguished panel discussion featuring:

Dr. Attila Bilgic, CEO of the KROHNE Group.

Lutz Wolf, CEO of the KARL MAYER Group.

Dipl.-Ing. Yine Zhang, CEO of N & H Technology GmbH.

The discussion highlighted several of Germany's most pressing structural challenges: insufficient investment in education, excessive bureaucracy, and inadequate investment in infrastructure and future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.
Participants found it particularly valuable that all panel members had extensive business experience in China and shared practical insights from their international operations. The discussion was perhaps best summarised by Lutz Wolf, who concluded:
"I have only one important piece of advice for everyone here: Go abroad! Make sure you look beyond your own horizon."
